THOMAS DAVID PETTIT
My Subject was born at the family farm near Model Tenn. on Wednesday March 20, 1870. He was the son of George W. and Etna Elizabeth Sills Pettit. His boy hood was spent in that area where he received a common school education. He married Emerina Porter 3 Feb. 1895 at the court house in Dover, Tn.
After the death of his father he helped on the farm and also on the farm of his grandfather Sills . Since the Sills farm was some distance from home, all the males in the family would go and make ‘’camp’’ in the spring and again in the fall to plant and harvest the crops.
The main crops were tobacco and oats. The tobacco was taken by barge down the Cumberland River to Paducah, Ky. to be sold. On one occasion when they were on their way down the river, a black man was killed during a fight. I do not know how my grandfather was involved but he was arrested and spent six months in jail. While he was incarcerated he grew a full beard and when he returned home the family did not recognize him.
When he was twenty-eight years old, the family loaded their covered wagon, drawn by oxen and headed for Texas. They were forced to stop in Arkansas due to the delicate condition of his wife, who gave birth to her second son in 1898. They spent a year there where he share cropped and than returned to Stewart Co., Tenn.
The family moved to Ballard County Ky. in 1916 and he remained there until the death of his wife in 1945. After her death, he lived in Slater, Ky. And than moved to Marshall County, Ky., to lived with his son, Oscar and family.
Pappy Pettit was tall and clean shaven except for a handsome moustache.
in our possession.
He was hit and killed by a bread truck near his home in Marshall County on 31 October 1950.
He and his wife were born again Christians.
They are buried in Bethlehem Cemetery near Wickliffe, Ky.
Grave and monument are located on side near back of church.

Alfred P. Hicks. Mystery Pert Near Solved!
According to a postcard written by Joseph Joshua Hicks dated 16 Oct 1941 to his mother Louisa Bailey Hicks back home in Model, TN. He had been visiting Amanda Brunson, Bertha, Lena, Annie and Fonnie Hicks in Mississippi county, Arkansas. He had been told by them that "Alfred, Florence and Pearl were buried at No 9." This was quite curious so I got out the Atlas and low and behold, there is a Number Nine, Arkansas.
Number Nine, Arkansas was named after the Number Nine mill. The township sprang up as people moved to the area to work clearing timber. I can not find any records on the Internet for the Number Nine cemetery, but I have contacted a local funeral home and am waiting on a response. So here is what information that I have to date.

Louida Davidella Smith
Desperately seeking information on Louida Davidella Smith. Her great grandson has contacted me and asks for our help in finding information about this family.
He has conflicting information that suggests that she was from Stewart County TN and Humphries County TN. He would like confirmation of such. According to her death certificate, the attending physician knew nothing of her birth place or parentage and even spelled her name Lou Ida. Its very probable that he had known her for years and never knew that it was a single, first name.
Louida was born 3-26-1852 and died 3-20-1931. She married James Marshall “Marsh” Fielder on 6-28-1870. They lived in Dickson County TN where they both are buried in the Fielder Cemetery on Piney River . They had 10 children, one being Albert Lloyd Fielder to whom the person searching for this family descends. His father, Quintus Bernard Fielder, was one of Albert’s younger sons and barely remembers his grandmother. Quintus has one surviving brother, Julian, who at 93, remembers Louida, but says her past was never discussed to his recollection, and they never visited her kin folk.
Anyone who has information on this family please contact me. I will get with the person searching for this information with your contact information so that he may contact you.
Thank you for your help.

Andrew Jackson Smith Jr. and Cora Green Viola Baggett Marriage Lincense
In earlier times, a marriage bond was given to the court by the intended groom prior to his marriage. It affirmed that there was no moral or legal reason why the couple could not be married and it also affirmed that the groom would not change his mind. If he did, and did not marry the intended bride, he would forfeit the bond. The bondsman, or surety, was often a brother or uncle to the bride, not necessarily a parent. The bondsman could also be related to the groom, or even be a neighbor or friend, but those situations occurred less often.

Updated Alfred P. Hicks
I have found:
1. A P Hicks married Florence I Sizemore on 30 Dec 1890 Stewart County TN
2. 1900 Stewart county, TN Census finds, Alfred - 27, living with his mother Parthena - 64, in Great Western Furnace, Stewart County, TN
Now. I know I have him marrying Florence in 1890, so could he have been home taking care of his mother or something when the census taker came along? Could Parthena have just told the census taker that Alfred lived there so she wouldn't appear to live alone? We will never know for sure.
3. 1910 Trigg County Kentucky Census
Alfred 38
Florence 34
Pearl 8
Bertha 6
Lena 4
Annie 2
Farney 5/12
Marthena (I'm sure this is Parthena) 77
4. Next in 1920, I find these kids living with a "aunt" Mandy Brerson (Brunson) in Hickman, Mississippi County, Arkansas.
Mandy Brerson 68
Pearl Hicks 18
Bertha Hicks 16
Lena Hicks 14
Annie Hicks 13
Fanny (Farney) Hicks 11
5. In the 1930 Census for Mississippi County, Arkansas, Town of Hickman, I find Mandy Brunson whom is 77 and 17 year old Fannie (nephew)
New questions. Has anyone ever heard of these people? What happened to Alfred and Florence? Could they have died in the flu epidemic of 1918 and the kids moved in with this aunt? Where are they buried?
I'm sure that the kids married and moved on. I would like to find decedents of them. What is Mandy's maiden name. Any Brunsons from Stewart County?
